Things That Irk Me: Light headliners in dark interiors

Why do manufacturers do this?

Kinja'd!!!

A lovely Brown and Black interior that's ruined by an off-white headliner, with no option for a dark colored one. All manufacturers do this, but some offer a black headliner alternative. Audi does on higher-end models, such as the A6 and A7. But not on a basic "premium" A4.

I guess they do this to make it appear lighter in the interior of the car? I really dunno, I'm not an interior design expert. But, would it kill manufacturers to offer a darker colored option on all models? I'd even be willing to pay a bit more for it.

Does this bug anyone else, or am I just being picky?

It doesnt bother me as long as they are on the same color spectrum. The cream headliner is a good offset to the chocolate brown seats but the black dash irks me paired with the brown spectrum interior

Germans consider black headliner sporty. I bet the s4 has black headliner.

I don't mind it actually, but to hazard a guess I would say they do it to make the interior seem larger and more open

I don't know if audi does" custom" options like bmw or Mercedes, but maybe it would be on that list. They're not on the online builder but a salesman would know about them. I hate beige headliner too.

I think it's to do with perception of space.

If you have a dark headliner (or dark interior for that matter), it makes the whole car feel more cossetting and tighter. Great for a sporty car where they want to make it a driver-centric cockpit.

If you have a light headliner, it makes the car feel more roomy and spacious. Airy is the word really.

You'd be surprised at the difference it makes to be honest.

What does irk me is the mish-mash of colours. It's not the worst, but the seats could do with being black and white (or at least grey), or the headlining and centre console accents could do with being a light tan.

My IS and xB both have gray headliners and black seats/dash. Doesn't really bother me, I kinda like the contrast.
